Yes, we are talking about the all mighty morning. Remember back to school when we had to wake up before dawn to get ready and be consciously ready to learn by 7:15am. I do. It was not my favorite memory, in fact, I think it turned me into loathing the morning. In college I felt liberated being able to wake up later, seeing the sun as soon as I woke up and starting the day. As we get into our ‘adult’ lives, working 9-5 (or 9ish to 5ish for us) we have a reason to get up early again and some of us find ourselves not finding the goodness in the morning.
After adjusting to rising early again and then reading about others journeys and time spent in the morning I decided to try my hand at waking up before the sun hit the horizon. Giving myself ample time before I had to head off to work. I realized by having such a peaceful morning the rest of my day was also much more enjoyable and smooth. Now, I’m not saying we all have to wake up at 5:30 or 6, and to be honest I no longer wake at that time every day. Things change, but my habit of taking advantage of my morning has not. Below are some tips on how to take advantage of your morning to help you evolve and start your day off right!
1. Wake up earlier!
Yes, I did say you won’t have to wake up at 5:30. But I do suggest that you give yourself 1- 2 hours of morning time before you have to leave your home or open your computer for work! Having this time allows you to fully wake up and not rush out of the door.
2. Give your body fuel for the day!
Some great tips for your body are to have warm water (preferably with local raw honey and lemon) when you wake to help kickstart your digestion and after you’ve had some good water make yourself breakfast. You don’t have to go big if you’re not a breakfast person, but studies show a hearty breakfast can help set your mind and body up for a good day! Soon we will be posting some of our favorite morning meals for you all to have.
3. Take time to reflect on your life.
Every morning I write a journal, my morning journal. Taking time to reflect on the situations in my life, list the things I am grateful for (from people, to situations and opportunities, to possessions), and my goals/dreams for the future. It’s an amazing release in the morning and is super fulfilling for the soul. Helping remind us of all the amazing things that we may miss while worrying about a deadline or a difficult situation we are going through.
4. Move your body!
Personally, I am not a morning workout person. I like to end my afternoons with my 4:15 kickboxing class. But in the morning I like to wake my body up by stretching and/or taking a walk around the neighborhood! Getting the blood moving, being outside, stretching out my muscles, and allowing my body to get ready for the day. Some people do yoga or even some breathing exercises. Any sort of body movement, for just 10-20 minutes, can help you warm your body up for the stresses of the day.
5. Get ready ahead of time.
If you take a while to get ready, make sure you allow yourself time to get your teeth brushed and hair done. Ending a calm and peaceful morning for yourself with a rushed ‘get-ready routine’ kind of defeats the purpose. Give yourself enough time to do your thing, turn on some music, and have fun getting ready for the day. (Even if its brushing your hair because it makes you feel better since you work from home and see no-one during the day.)
Now this is just advice and a snippet of how I start my mornings. Having a peaceful and fulfilling morning always sets up an amazing day. If you have some suggestions we would love to hear them as well!
Let’s do it! Let’s take advantage of the morning for steady and happy days!
